00 -- Welcome to My Hip Replacement Journey

I’m creating this blog to document my experience with hip replacement — from prehabilitation and preparation, through surgery, recovery, rehabilitation, and the return to normal function. My hope is that sharing the process openly and honestly will help others who are considering hip replacement understand what the journey can look like, what questions to ask, what challenges may arise, and what recovery may involve.

This is my personal experience, not a substitute for medical advice, and every patient’s situation and recovery will be different. But by sharing the practical details, functional testing, videos, setbacks, progress, and lessons I learn along the way, I hope this series can make the process feel more understandable and less uncertain for others facing the same decision.

Part of the inspiration for documenting this journey came from my nutrition coach, Ryan Irwin of Impact Action Coaching. Ryan regularly shared updates following his own surgical intervention, and those posts helped me understand the recovery process in a way that was different from what I knew as a physician. They showed me the experience from the patient’s perspective. Because his willingness to share helped me, it inspired me to do the same.

If documenting my own journey can help even one person who is living with severe pain or disability and is hesitant because the process feels unknown, then sharing it will have been worthwhile.

Over the coming months, I plan to document my baseline function, prehabilitation, preoperative reassessment, surgery, early recovery, rehabilitation, setbacks, progress, and ultimately the return to strength, mobility, normal function, and hopefully a life no longer limited by pain.
